Went Fine

They were able to see that there was a 1 cm x 1.5 cm tear via the endoscopy, the first and least invasive thing they were going to try tonight. A clot must have dislodged when Daddy coughed or stood up. They removed all of the clots in the chest cavity and stapled the lung (can't suture bc the lungs are spongy). Does not think this has much long-term impact as this was maybe 1% of his breathing capacity. It's just another thing to heal. It was not visible from the inside of the lung via bronch scope.

I asked why this clot caused the VAD flow to drop so much and was told that when anything disturbs the blood flow to the lungs, it can interrupt flow to the right side of the heart. The clot did not go in to the VAD, there is no problem with the VAD.

This was probably a complication from a previous procedure.

The doc said that his x-ray is clear now, so after checking labs to be sure his blood #s are good, they will start the process to extubate.

Going back to bed.
