First Week of Freedom

I got home last night & was really happy to see both Daddy & Jaron.

Monday's discharge went alright. He got 30 days of meds. Still not sure if there are any new ones but even if so that should give him time to get them ordered at his primary care appt next Wed. Monday night Jaron got him settled in and taped vents closed. They found the sweatshirt that came in on Monday.

Tuesday it sounds like Daddy mostly slept! Tuesday night he & Jaron went out driving and went to Subway and did some screwing around in the parking lot. That parking lot actually really sucks, parking lines at weird angles and it's on a hill. So, a more challenging place to practice than the large church parking lot.

Wednesday Daddy went to the store on his own. He says he feels good. He said that before (last year) there were times when he'd be going to the store and felt kinda fucked up and didn't feel that way this time.

Had an initial convo about whether I'd be taking him home, following him home etc on Friday and the general consensus is that he'll just head out on his own at some point when he feels ready. Discussed not screwing up on the last mile. He gets it. I could go for a ride in the car with him at some point to make myself feel better, but I also know he's really tired of needing to prove himself to EVERYONE. He is very glad to be done with the hospital and their "mind-fuck games" where they check cognition.

I typed up and printed out a front and back primary care checklist & some timeline/background info and ran it by the doctors on Sunday. Got some phone calls as a result of actual screw-ups (wrong IV med order, unneccessary home care that was not covered by VA) on Tuesday and got the LVAD NP and rehab doc involved to straighten those out. And thanked them for everything else they have done. Unfortunately when these care companies get involved they are super annoying and persistent.

The transplant info session coordinator on Ft Meade & transportation didn't call him back for my address, and he didn't call her either with all of the craziness on Monday and sleeping all day on Tuesday, so that didn't come together.

He's been sitting outside every day to get some sunlight (and warm up? Extra AC was not deployed ;) and chillaxing.

Oh, and about peanut M&M's. I ordered him a big bag and he gave his Sam's card & some cash to a nurse to score him some. AND his brother Rick sent some to him at rehab. That was awesome, Rick! So he's majorly in the m&m's now.

Here are some pics & mods done by one of my good friends from high school, Candace. She's a hoot!!
