Daddy is doing well after the brain
surgery! He now has a hole in his head….haha…like we all need another hole in
our heads. There is still a little bit of blood on his brain. His bleed was in between the lining and the brain. My sister
and I originally thought it was just between the skull and the lining of the
brain. They are watching closely to make sure that there is no new bleeding and
that this small amount will dissipate. Last night he brushed his teeth himself,
was able to sit up at an acute angle, and was very thirsty.
His biggest
concerns were being thirsty, being simple minded (from brain damage), and
dying. The neuro surgeon believes that he will have a full recovery with very
little to no brain damage. There is still a slight shift in the position of his
brain, but it shouldn’t be an issue. The brain is the slowest healing organ, so
it may be a few weeks to a few months before he’s completely back to himself. He
will be in the hospital for a few more weeks while they wean him back onto
blood thinners and watch very closely that there is no new bleeding. Sorry if
that’s all TMI.
Today he’s allowed to eat and drink….and he’s
very happy about that! He’s sitting in the chair (out of the bed). They are
moving him out of ICU over to the Step Down Unit. Neuro has completely signed
off on him and they are very pleased with his motor function and cognition.
I’m flying Abby out here tomorrow and we
will be with him in the hospital next week. Thank you all SO SO much for the love and support!!!!! It
really means a lot to us.
